What do you like best?
The launch integration team seems genuinely knowledgeable
What do you dislike?
I was sold a greasy product and all my queries were met with a resounding yes, we can do this and we can do this integration and do multi-currency in XYZ format. I was promised a model which charged b customers 2% fees on currency conv which they did not make clear
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
I do not recommend a platform which is sold like Snake Oil.
What do you like best?
It's a light, quick, hosted e-commerce system with minimal downtime. If you're content with a given template with few customizations, it may be good for you.
What do you dislike?
For the $2k/month price, key eCommerce features are missing, requiring an endless array of third-party apps...
- Anything beyond a very basic menu requires an extra app/charge
- Any catalog sorting/filtering requires an extra app/charge
- Any sort of wishlist requires an extra app/charge
- Redirecting search terms requires an extra app/charge
- Pricing changes are unnecessarily cumbersome.
- The drag & drop design interface only applies to the home page, other pages only give you a basic text editor to build the page.
- Blogs also give you a basic text editor to build the page.
- You cannot exclude products from discounts on criteria, only include on criteria.
- You cannot exclude products from categories on criteria, only include on criteria.
- You couldn't create a return label until very recently.
Recommendations to others considering the product
Consider every tiny functionality you want on your website (Forms, Menus, Sorting, Wishlists, Reviews, Category Structures, Media-Heavy Blogs or Pages and see what Shopify offers for those things natively (very little and consider the app subscriptions you'll require to truly run your website. Shopify is in no way an all-inclusive cost or solution.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
The business problem we solved was Magento, a cumbersome CMS, and site downtime. Additionally, Shopify offers great payment options for customers, easy to set up Apple, Google, and Amazon Pay and PayPal.
What do you like best?
Range of extensions available, look and feel, customer support
What do you dislike?
Product Search Feild, inability to customize emails, inability to customize wholesale sites

Recommendations to others considering the product
If you are a complex eCommerce business - Shopify does not have all the bells and whistles. They are transparent in communication what they can and not do.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Running our eCommerce platform on shopify. We are able to contact support via email, chat, our account rep directly, etc. when we have any questions.
What do you like best?
When having the eternal debate between Shopify and Bigcommerce I use the same analogy. Shopify is the Mac as BigCommerce is to Windows. Shopify is very user friendly, very polished, and works extremely well if you work within their 3rd party app ecosystem. Shopify is great for smaller to medium size companies.
What do you dislike?
Customer support will leaving you wanting more from. Unless you're a Plus customer, look forward to long hold times to get help with specific issues. Keep an eye out for Shopify's transaction fees. Because Shopify only works with a select few payment gateway providers your options are already limited. On top of that, if you aren't using their proprietary payment gateway you'll have to pay transaction fees. If you move a lot of product or sell big ticket items, those will add up quickly. Lastly, EVERYTHING needs an app. If you buy Shopify (even Plus) expect to also have to purchase applications to bolt on functionality. They'll work well, but expect your monthly expenses to never be for just the Shopify platform.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are out growing one of the more basic licenses and considering Plus, give real consideration to BigCommerce. Where BigCommerce doesn't shine as bright for smaller projects, it does a great job for medium and up size builds. Shopify doesn't have clear advantages in those one to one comparisons.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
My time to implementation is usually shorter with Shopify. As such for my clients, that means a faster time to realizing revenue. When it comes to my internal team, the generally user friendly nature of the product also for increased efficiency when performing tasks or updates.
