What do you like best?
It provides a ton of great ideas in RAD development. I think the work on Spring Roo is what causes Spring Boot, JHipster and a ton of other smarter, faster development practices for JVM development space.
For basic corporate web apps that use SQL databases, you have everything you need in a quick command-line builder. It's really good and if you use JBosss Forge, you may want to switch to Spring Roo for something lighterweight.
What do you dislike?
At this point, it's not really relevant. The practices, RAD nature and speed ups for Spring have been incorporated in Spring Boot and JHipster. You can now do similar RAD development with other Spring tools. ROO also has that proprietary wirings that you can't touch. It also has not had the updates as the other spring projects.
Recommendations to others considering the product
I would say look at Spring Boot, JHipster, Grails and other light weight solutions. Spring Roo is great, but the support, documentation and community are just not there at this time. It's a great solution that probably came out a little too soon and didn't get the community support or mindshare that Spring Boot gets now.
Perhaps they could generate Spring Boot code with no special annotations or aspects. AOP is not really how most things are done anymore. Support for Scala and Groovy would be really nice as well. If you could generate Android apps or phone gap style mobile apps that would be a killer feature as well.

RAD with Java for web applications. It worked, but now we use Spring Boot and JHipster instead.

Spring Roo can be used to jump start your project... Roo shell is nice feature.. JPA entities and their Spring Data JPA repositories can be easily added...

Low learning curve, ease of front end and backend integration. Less dependencies than Spring Boot

Limited library for creating sophisticated user interfaces.

Simple 3-tier applications
What do you like best?
It generates lots of boilerplate, test cases, service classes, by a couple of commands. It ends up saving lots of time when you need rapid development. I was primarily using spring roo 1.3.2 which is quite old. We used it for lots of hackathons and small-2 POC's. Just one suggestion for the team, make sure the number of tutorials are high for spring roo. I personally as well as some team members have faces issues whose solutions are not available on the internet at all.
What do you dislike?
I have faced a couple of debugging issues. Sometimes fixing failing test cases was difficult to solve. In the long run, you will run into hanging consoles, AspectJ issues, Auto-generated test cases are a mess :( I believe we should generate a normal spring boot project as soon as we are done with the implementation of your idea and 2-3 months in production. It was difficult for new folks as well because spring boot is quite popular and available in terms of tutorials. Initially, the motivation is also quite less because not everyone uses it in the spring world.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Spring boot is very fast in terms of development. Together with Lombok, it's even faster to develop, Check do you really need a command line code generator. Use spring roo when you need to build something completely new.

We are using it to power a couple of microservices for an online learning product. It's a very good tool to build experimental projects/POC's as it saves lots of time.

1. Auto-generation of Services, Models, test cases, etc.
What do you like best?
command line interface for generating code.
What do you dislike?
It seems that jHipster is WAAAAY more powerful with more combinations and frameworks than Spring Roo.
Frontend is old way of doing web. Spring Roo is still using MVC pattern. While in jHipster you can use Angular, React,Vue. You can setup as microservices.
Missing NoSQL support, Kafka integration.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
use jHipster :)
