What do you like best?
Reasonably intuitive UI, good knowledge base.
What do you dislike?
It's the most expensive platform on the market yet under delivers on performance. Many industry standard features are missing and very limited configurations available. It may be ok if you can use it as is out-of-the-box, but venture away from their standard use cases and you're in trouble.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're starting out in localization and have a huge budget, as a first TMS, you'll probably be fine with Smartling. If you're after a robust platform for a mature localization program, I would look elsewhere.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Software and website translation, automation. No benefits above the standard benefits of any TMS platform.
What do you like best?
It connects with a lot of CMSs and has more advanced ways of capturing visual context than many other CAT tools on the market.
What do you dislike?
- very sales-y vibe and not able to account for product shortcomings
- FAQ/documentation not robust or up-to-date
- don't collaborate with LSPs as much as needed
- lacking features that are considered industry standard for all other CAT tools (this seems to be slowly changing)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a great connector to your content for seamless translation of your technology products, I recommend it. I do not recommend it for companies with a very mature localization model or who want to partner with more than 1 LSP. I do not recommend Smartling for those looking for an LSP, as quality has not been high with their freelance translators and partner LSPs, in my experience.

- a more automated way to capture context for mobile apps
- how to make the experience seamless for LSPs and internal reviewers to use
What do you like best?
Smartling allows us to reach customers all over the world by customizing our content to better communicate with them
What do you dislike?
Translating web content is great, but sometimes information can get miscommunicated when translating to another lamguage

Reach a broader range of customers all over the world
What do you like best?
This is a great product if you're trying to do a 1-1 translation of your website, either for a different language in your country, or a different language in a different country.
What do you dislike?
The product is far from ideal if you're trying to manage websites that are at all dissimilar. If you want to serve up certain pages in only certain countries, or change things like global CSS or fonts, you have to either manage that in individual components or using javascript in your code - neither solution is ideal.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
DON'T use smartling for anything besides simple text changes and minimal interface changes.

Serving up US, Canadian, and Australian website. Smartling has allowed us to launch these websites in a fraction of the time that it would have taken us to do a full-on development of the additional sites.
What do you like best?
That multiple translators can work on the same file at the same time. And context!
What do you dislike?
The help docs are not very comprehensive. I would like to see more help videos as well.

I don't have to send files back and forth anymore.
