What do you like best?
The OPENBOM interface is straightforward, easy to navigate. It has the basics of BOM management + forecaswting.
What do you dislike?
Several bugs, all reported to OPENBOM. Action promised but none seen in any new releases for months. Top of the list: Templates. I used templates alot to save time creating new BOM's. But BOM's created from templates do not a) have the same column order as the original and b) the column formatting is different. I have to manually correct every BOM made from a Template.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure it fits your needs.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
A simple, cloud based location for BOM management.
What do you like best?
Low cost, fairly easy to upload new data. Very interested in them adding change notice abilities in the future. They are also responsive when our team brings up issues.
What do you dislike?
Great difficulty with configurations (for assemblies, as a robotics company, configurations are used to show an assembly in different positions, rather than as different items. Open BOM doesn't allow for this). Though I understand there is much more training then there was, I still find that after the initial set up, many things are not as straightforward as I would like them to be
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think it will become really great software, but it is still in the growing stages. However, for the pricepoint, its pretty hard to beat
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Our primary reason for using OpenBOM was to manage BOM changes, particularly roll up quantities, which are difficult when you have many layers of sub assembly. However, with the configuration issue above, we still cannot do this. When that issue is fixed however, I look forward to being able to easily generate POs for different vendors.
What do you like best?
I like the multi-level BOM capability with cost roll-ups.
What do you dislike?
I use Airtable a lot and it has similar functionality (fields and field types, formulas, filter views, tables, etc..) and I find the Airtable interface 1000% easier to use. Something as simple as hiding a column is cumbersome and frustrating. I would like to see a "disable public field" option. I find public fields completely useless and they just get in the way.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
we actually are still not using it. We've been paying for the pro level for a year or two but every time I go to use it, the user interface is so frustrating I end up shelving it for a while. There are also some recent feature updates that make using it more possible (namely, being able to add a catalog item from a SW part file).

I like the easy export of BOMs and the fact that BOMs include images

From my experience not all functionality is where it needs to be

Easily sharing project data with those who may not have a seat of Solidworks
What do you like best?
Introduces discipline which Excel lacks. Prevents duplicate part numbers. Shows where each item is used. Limits entered data.
What do you dislike?
Some functionality is buggy. Needs refinement. Search function causes over-write of data. Can't edit row entry from BOM.

Give it some time before migrating.
