The thing that I liked most with Access is making queries from a multiple tables. It'll give you access in making a customized report from info across tables. You can utilize its pre-installed wizard to offer a step-by-step guide or make it on your own. Basically, you're offered full control in grouping tables via a relationship. I love making my own reports and forms.

What aspects are problematic or could work better?

One thing about Access is that it's not completely intuitive. It can overwhelm anyone who's not familiar or has zero background on Microsoft Access. When opening the program, you'll be handed varying options to choose from. Once you've made a decision, there won't be much info leading to where you'll be headed or how to take in files from another source. Although they have wizards that can be utilized (as of the moment, their functionality is severely restricted).

What specific problems in your company were solved by this product?

The biggest aspect it did for us was having the ability to make a huge database for department purposes. We can put in data that could be required for use by anyone. From there we can make customized queries in returning certain data we need. This saved us a lot of time in making customized reports and queries from third party software. Microsoft Access enhances to further work collaboratively and utilize aspects of data required in one convenient location.

The one thing I really love with Microsoft Access is the amount of leg room it gives you in configuring data. It's also capable of connecting to other software. Many refuse to give in to MS Access since it would initially seem to be lot more complicated. If you have a backround in Visual Basic & SQL then MS Access is one amazing tool to have. MS Access gives you the freedom to craft your own database without worrying about spending huge amounts of money.

What aspects are problematic or could work better?

One aspect that I don't favor with MS Access is security. A majority of the time, the file won't be completely protected. This holds true if there's a large volume of data available. Even with a limitations in data, if you've gone over 2GB, you won't be able to utilize MS Access again. This could be attributed to its security.

What specific problems in your company were solved by this product?

I've been using MS Access in creating databases to link with Oracle Banner from my older jobs. It' s meant to process and organize data. It simply works! But it'll take up a lot of time in making tables, reports, and forms via visual basic and queries. The result is something that I constantly require. It saved be a lot of money and time.

All tools can be accessed by means of a search and menu. If you know your way around the Office products, then expect a similar experience with this one.

While it appears that its features are fantastic to work with, it has its restrictions. It can also lead to some confusion. There are so many tools in there that are hard to get a grip on. The learning curve is way higher than those offered by Microsoft Office. Keep in mind that this is something that shouldn't turn everyone off.

Within my organization, reporting and keeping track of user role accessibility is challenging to achieve. THey can only be accomplished through the use of spreadsheets. Being able to integrate spreadsheets in one database for comparisons and running reports is highly valuable. Having Access as a front end for an SQL database proves to be great tool for the organization as well as the work that I"m doing. I now have the ability to link to updated data sources and reports.
