Descript is a tool to a) create so-and-so believable (artificial) voice-overs from text and b) convert recordings of narrations into text that you can edit in a (unbearable slow/sluggy) text editor to be converted back into spoken words. To some extent, you can "edit" a recording "on paper". However, the quality of the results depends on how much time you invest in learning/using the clumsy tools - and, if you need to get a job done, to be patient enough to not just redo a take yourself.So far, the support for a premium-priced piece of software / webservice (TTS service) is plain unacceptable. Descript charges around 30 Dollar a month for using their text-to-speech services, however, you need support to actually make their software work for you. Support, however, is slow (takes several days to answer single questions, discussing a problem is impossible - which, in the end, simply costs your money).A simple back-of-envelope calculation will tell you that hiring a professional or even amateur voice actor will be cheaper and much faster to deliver what you need than trying to make "artificial unintelligence" work for you.This could be a good if not perfect product/service, if support was quick and actually listening (it's an American company, don't expect them to listen - ever).

While the software is amazing technology, their support is so lacking on discord and email support I give a 1/5 stars since they don't seem to respond. For $30/mo you get a lot but when you lose 5 hours of work because the software stops working and you can't load your podcast, that's not fun.

The idea is great and when it works, it's great. When it doesn't work (which is often over the several years that I've used it), customer service is sparse and takes a long time to resolve the issue. Don't depend on Descript for consistent app function, delivery or for reliable, helpful, or timely customer service.

Use this for transcribing podcasts and it is very user friendly. Can detect and label speakers easily. Minor errors in grammar and spelling.
