What do you like best?
I love how easy it was to add ButterCMS into my existing Rails application without a hassle. The trial period is perfect for testing the waters. The support is exceptional.
What do you dislike?
Being such a small non-profit and only using Butter's capabilities for a small subset of our business. I wish there were cheaper options. Even a discounted product adds up. I wish there was an option for snippets rather than full pages.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We have certain pages on our website that will be updated by other-than-IT personnel. Butter makes it easy for them to add content.
What do you like best?
Butter is a very useful product all around.
Their documentation is easy to follow and has guides for many different environments.
Their information hierarchy is pretty clear and adapts well to most websites -- Pages (website pages), Blog Posts (blog posts), and Collections (collections of objects you define). The collections in particular are very flexible for a wide variety of uses.
I've only had good interactions with support.
They have separate api keys for reads and writes, which means that you can request resources safely from a web client.
It's pretty easy to configure a preview URL so that your team can view changes they are making to a site before pushing them live.
In general, moving from a basic php site to a React app backed by Butter has been delightful. It's dead simple to map React components to data retrieved from Butter to quickly create a really flexible website, which non-coders can change without ease.
Finally, in contrast to a standard CMS (wordpress) it's great to be able to make certain parts of the site editable by the marketing team, while still having the full flexibility to code custom components in React.
What do you dislike?
Butter excels as a headless CMS, but the UI of their dashboard could use some improvement. It's hard to put my finger on exactly what the issue is, but many of the UI features are somewhat clunky.
Other than that, the only feature I wish was available is a way to set a global preview url, because currently, you need to set that individually for each page.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We're removing our developers from being bottlenecks to updating website content. Before, our marketing team would need to tell us what changes they wanted to see and we would change the site code to reflect those changes. Now, we don't need to change the code base at all, and our marketing team can update the site at will.
What do you like best?
Once we got things set up, which is relatively easy, you can publish posts through a GUI directly to your domain without having to make a pull request.
What do you dislike?
- The UI is relatively simple, but could use polish in places.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
- our blog is now in a subdirectory instead of a subdomain
- the above can be accomplished while allowing non-technical people to publish content
- don't have to mix application/product code updates with content updates.

ButterCMS has a very easy set up and a good documentation.

Would be good to have an ability to POST

Easy access to information from a client's side. Instead of using CMS that require PHP, this one was very convenient for use in React. I wish it had an ability to send information back (POST, PUT etc, but I guess Butter CMS is still growing. Good luck with your service!

It's a perfectly fine product that will save you headaches.

There's not a ton about Butter that I dislike.
